Asian Pacific Community in Action
Serving Arizona’s Asian and Pacific Islander Communities
The Asian Pacific Community in Action (APCA) was created in 2002 to meet the health-related needs of Asian/Pacific Islander individuals and families residing in Maricopa County. These needs have included better access to preventive services such as mammograms, hepatitis B screening and vaccination, and diabetes testing. Studies also indicated that the local Asian/Pacific Islander community had misconceptions about health issues.
In conjunction with its many agency partners and individual volunteers, APCA is working hard to meet the community needs. Health fairs offering free diabetes and cholesterol screening are held at clinics and grocery stores (such as Lee Lee Oriental Supermart in Chandler). APCA tobacco education booths are mainstays at local events such as the Matsuri, Aloha and Korean festivals. Through Susan G. Komen for the Cure support, APCA offers free educational workshops on breast and cervical cancer prevention and offers free mammograms for low-income Asian/Pacific Islander women without health insurance coverage. All services are free and offered in multiple languages, including English, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese.
We invite you to take some time to browse our website and become familiar with APCA programs and services. Please feel free to call or e-mail us with questions or health-related needs.
